Back to Media Space Tutorials

Once you’ve uploaded video to My Media in Media Space, you can share it with students in your D2L course. Your Zoom Cloud recordings are also saved to your Media Space after you’ve logged into your account at least once.

Publish your video to Unlisted

The first step is always to make sure your video is published as Unlisted, not Private.

  1. Go to http://media.pdx.edu
  2. Click on PSU User.
  3. Click Login.
  4. On the PSU Single Sign-On page, enter your ODIN username and password, then confirm with Duo.
  5. In Media Space, click your name in the upper right corner, and select My Media.
  6. Find your video in the list, and click on it.
  7. Find the Actions menu in the lower right.
  8. Click the + Publish option in the list.
  9. In the publishing settings below the video, make sure that your video is set to Unlisted.
  10. Click Save.

Sharing options

It’s important to note that there are several ways you can share a video from your Media Space account. the steps are similar but each has slightly different results depending on whether it uses the Kaltura LTI integration or a standard URL.

Note: if you are preparing your course for migration to Canvas, use the option below. This creates a “hard” link to Media Space, which will get copied to your Canvas course. After migration, you’ll need to edit the link to select “open in new tab.”

New link in D2L module with URL (this link will migrate to Canvas)

  1. In Media Space, make sure the video you want to share is published as Unlisted. Open the video by select the title or thumbnail (not with the Edit pencil icon).
  2. Select the Share tab beneath the video and copy the highlighted URL.
  3. In your D2L course, navigate to the module where you want the video link.
  4. Select the blue New button to open that menu.
  5. Select Create a Link.
D2L Create a Link button and menu
  6. Paste the video URL in the URL field and add the desired link text to the Title field.

  7. Leave the Open as External Resource checkbox selected.
  8. Select Create.

Link in text area that opens video in students’ Media Space (this link will migrate to Canvas)

Note: when you use this option, the shared video is opened in the viewer’s own Media Space account. This means that when you open that link yourself, you’ll see the video play in your own Media Space account, where you’ll see other videos from your My Media list to the right of the video you’ve shared. This does not mean that others viewing the shared video will see other videos in your account. They’ll be viewing the video in their own Media Space account.

  1. Open your course in D2L and navigate to the page or Activity text box where you will link to the video.
  2. Activate the Text Editor Toolbar by selecting Edit HTML (on a page) or clicking in the text box of an Activity.
  3. Select the Insert Stuff button (this looks like a “play media” button).
  4. Select Insert Link.
  5. Paste the URL in the space provided and click Next.
  6. Type in the descriptive link text and click Insert.
  7. Click Save and Close.
  8. Test the link. It should open a new browser tab/window that launches the video in Media Space.

  7. Save and Close the page or activity.
  8. Test the link. It should open a new browser tab/window with the embedded video.
