Getting Started with Zoom

Zoom is a virtual meeting software available to the PSU community. PSU users can access Zoom via the Zoom web portal at as well as through the Zoom client/app, and in D2L via the D2L Zoom meetings tool.

Sign In to Zoom via the Web Portal

The Zoom web portal at is where you can customize your default meeting settings (see our recommended settings for preventing Zoom-bombing), add a profile picture, schedule new meetings, view details about past meetings, and access all of your Zoom cloud recordings. We recommend starting with the Zoom web portal.

  1. Sign in to the portal with your Odin information at
  2. Locate the left navigation menu containing tabs to adjust your Zoom Profile, Meetings, Settings and Recordings.
  3. Review and optionally adjust your default meeting and recording settings. See recommended settings for Zoom-bombing prevention.
  4. Customize your profile and (optionally) add a profile picture. The profile picture is what shows when you’re in a meeting but have disabled your video feed.
  5. Customize your name display to (optionally) include preferred pronouns. To do this, edit your Profile and select the name field. Add pronouns after your last name. Save the new settings.

Sign In to the Zoom Desktop Client

The Zoom Client is software to run and manage Zoom meetings. To use all in-meeting features of Zoom, you will need to use the Zoom Client/App.

You will need to download and install the Zoom Desktop Client first. Download via You do not need administrator privileges to download and install the client. Zoom also has mobile apps for meetings from your smartphone or tablet.

  1. Open the client on your computer.
  2. Click the Sign In with SSO button.

  3. Enter your email address or the PSU domain (pdx) as requested.
  4. Enter your PSU Odin credentials, if prompted, and click login.
  5. If prompted, confirm the browser dialogue box to open the Zoom app.
    Open Option to Always open these types of links in the associated app. Cancel and Open buttons.
  6. You are now logged into the Zoom app. You can customize your personal meeting defaults, and schedule and join meetings from the app.
